The Healthy Eating Lifestyle Programme (HELP) is a research project to help young people take charge of overweight through a FREE weight management programme specifically for young people aged 12 to 19.
When is this programme happening?
From January 2011 to December 2013, researchers from UCL's Institute of Child Health will be conducting a study with 200 young people living in the Greater London area. The aim of the study is to assist young people to gain control of their weight through a solution-focused, motivational and behavioural intervention.
Why are we doing this research?
- Young people's health can be affected by overweight right now (such as problems with breathing and pains in the joints) or later in life when obesity can lead to diabetes and heart disease.
- Obesity in adolescence is difficult to manage.
- Thousands of young people across London are struggling everyday with their weight.
